CKC Fremont Open House Recap: EMC Seminars & Facility Tours

CKC Laboratories recently hosted an Open House at our new Fremont EMC laboratory, bringing together customers, partners, and industry professionals for a day of technical education, networking, and facility tours. The event featured two engineering seminars focused on real-world EMC challenges and designing products for successful compliance.

Nerve Stimulation Testing: Navigating Canada’s RSS-102 Requirements

The first seminar, presented by Randy Clark, covered Canada’s RSS-102 Nerve Stimulation requirements for products operating between 3 kHz and 10 MHz.
Randy brought over 15 years of EMC industry experience to the presentation, with expertise spanning wireless testing, radio equipment approvals, standards research, and measurement uncertainty. He walked attendees through how Nerve Stimulation testing differs from traditional RF Exposure evaluations, explained exemption calculations, and demonstrated how precision location detection and curve-fitting analysis are used to evaluate electric and magnetic field components at a product’s surface.
For manufacturers developing products in this frequency range, understanding RSS-102 early can help identify applicable requirements, avoid unexpected compliance hurdles, and reduce costly redesigns later in the certification process.

Grounding & Shielding: The Foundation of EMC

The second seminar was led by Steve Behm, Director of Engineering Services at CKC Laboratories. With more than 28 years of EMC certification experience, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis, and NARTE EMC Engineer certification, Steve presented practical guidance on grounding and shielding, two of the most foundational elements of EMC design.
His presentation explored how grounding techniques, shielding effectiveness, and proper bonding influence a product’s ability to control emissions and improve immunity to electromagnetic disturbances, and how getting these right early reduces troubleshooting time during compliance testing.

Thank You for Joining Us

We appreciate everyone who attended our Fremont Open House and helped make the event a success. Opportunities like these allow us to share technical knowledge, answer questions, and connect directly with the engineering community.

Looking Ahead: More Fremont Lunch & Learns

We’re excited to continue hosting technical Lunch & Learn events at our Fremont facility. Our goal is to provide practical, educational seminars that help engineers and manufacturers stay informed on evolving EMC requirements and industry best practices.

Have a topic you’d like us to cover? We’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s EMC design, RF exposure, wireless approvals, medical devices, automotive standards, military testing, aerospace, or another compliance area, let us know. We’re always looking for ideas.

We hope to see you at the next Lunch and Learn!
