EMC Testing FAQs | Compliance, Certification & Remote Testing

General Questions

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing ensures that electronic devices operate correctly in the presence of electromagnetic interference and without causing electromagnetic interference for other devices.  Manufacturers are required to have their products meet government regulations and market approval for all countries that they are selling their products in, or marketing to.

Any electronic device may require EMC testing. This includes wireless devices, medical equipment, automotive electronics, industrial machinery, consumer electronics, military and aerospace products.

The duration depends on the complexity of the device and applicable standards. A typical test can take a few days to a few weeks, depending on pre-compliance preparation. CKC is an accredited laboratory and certification body (CKC CS). CKC may help your team from design stages, pre-compliance, formal compliance testing, accredited reporting and certification services.

Costs vary based on the type of testing, regulatory requirements, and the device being tested. Contact CKC for a detailed quote based on your specific needs.

If a product fails, CKC provides detailed failure analysis and design recommendations. Retesting may be required depending on modifications required.

Testing & Certification

CKC tests for many global standards, including standards promulgated by:

  • FCC (United States)
  • CE Marking (Europe)
  • ISED (Canada, including RSS-210)
  • MIL-STD (Military applications)
  • ISO (automotive)
  • SAE and Reg 10 (automotive)
  • IEC Standards (International)
  • DO160 (aerospace)

Yes! Pre-compliance testing helps identify potential EMC issues early in the development phase, reducing costly failures during full compliance testing.

If your product includes wireless functionality or intentional emissions of radio frequency energy , it may require an FCC ID. CKC can help with the testing and certification process.

RSS-210 is a Canadian standard for unlicensed radio equipment. If your product transmits RF signals and is intended for the Canadian market, you’ll likely need to comply with this standard.

FCC certification is required for the U.S., while CE marking is mandatory for the European market. Each has different testing requirements, and CKC may help ensure compliance with both.

Yes, we offer remote testing options to provide flexibility and convenience for our clients. Through our remote testing services, you can actively participate in your product’s EMC testing process without being physically present at our laboratories.

Process & Logistics
